Hey guys! It’s been a while since I’ve done a post. I really do apologize for that! I probably should have reached out sooner, haha. Let me tell you what has been going on since my last post in May (so like, 9 months ago?) and tell you about my life recently!
Last time I updated you all with a post, I had just graduated from Southeast Technical College. I was enjoying my summer and also looking for jobs as well. Basically I was glad to be done with two years of college and living life, just to put it plainly! I was originally looking for a job, but I always had more school in the back of my head. My parents pushed me to reach for my full potential.
I was struggling to find a job that suited me best. Either jobs did not really fit what I was looking for in the work force, or they had a lack of communication. The lack of a communication from a company was a big red flag for me so I strayed away from companies that would “forget” to get back to me after a while.
I had a pretty big life change recently where my mom moved out to New York for work. After she had gotten settled in to her job there, we had a chat about a college. The Rochester Institute of Technology was a college near my mom worked and she thought that it would be a good fit for me if I ever decided I wanted to do more school. She never pressured me, but she told me that I may have more luck finding a job that best suits what I am looking for by trying something different.
And so, I heard her out. I couldn’t find a job that really suited what I was looking for in life, so we decided to tour the college. I really liked the campus and everybody was so welcoming. I put in an application while still trying to look for a job. I had no luck with jobs, but I got accepted into the Rochester Institute of Technology!
A fun fact about my application is that I kind of changed up my major when transitioning to college. At Southeast Technical College, I was studying Media Design. In that degree I was a “jack of all trades”. I had skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, working with a camera, etc. When I came to RIT, I decided to change things up a bit. My whole life I always have had a knack for photography. If I was going to make this big jump in my life, I wanted to make sure I was doing something that I loved since I had more degree choices with a knowledge of design from STC. I did a deep dive into each major that RIT offered and decided to have Visual Media as my first choice for a degree, with Graphic Design and Illustration as 2nd and 3rd choices.
Visual Media is the degree that I did get accepted into. Just reading about it can seem kind of vague, so I’ll explain what I am doing in my degree a bit more. Visual Media is a photography-focused degree that incorporates different aspects of design. I felt as though this was the perfect degree for me. I would get to pursue my love for photography and also use the design skills that I learned the past two years. Plus, my credits transferred very well when switching colleges. I only have to do an additional half-year, plus I might do a minor which would also be a half-year.
So, yeah! I’ve been keeping myself busy at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I just recently started my second semester and so far classes have been going great! I’ll try to be more frequent on blogs (probably one or two every two weeks). But, I am a pretty busy person. I’ll do my best! It’s great to catch up with you all, and keep your eyes out for more great work from me in the future!
