SUMMER BREAK

School just started again for me, but I still can’t let go of what I did over the summer. Let’s talk about it since this might be one of the last summer breaks that I have for a while.

I spent 10 weeks of my summer in a “summer semester” taking some online classes. I took a Psychology class and a Sociology class to lighten my schoolwork load for this fall. Spending the time taking these classes in the summer was very helpful for me because I can sometimes get overwhelmed with work, and I know future me will thank summer me for making that decision. I learned a lot about adult materials in Psychology class. I have always been nervous for things like interviews, the workplace, finding a job, and other life problems. This class easily explained all of these things and made me much more confident for post-college life. My Sociology class helped me with my people skills. I know how to be a good member in society, how to interact with not only those around be but those all over the world, and how to better myself as a person. I feel more confident knowing where I stand in the world and how I can make the world a better place.

Moving on from my online classes, let’s get on to more fun summer activities that I did between school semesters.

I did some traveling over the summer! I wrote a blogpost recently about my trip to Rochester, NY, and I definitely recommend reading it because it has been one of my favorite trips in a while! Not only did I travel east, but I traveled west to the Black Hills with a group of friends. It was a trip a year in the making that took lots of planning but was totally worth it. The cabin my friends and I were staying in was so pretty, and we all had a really great time exploring the area.

Working took up a lot of time on my summer schedule. I might be moving into a new apartment with some friends, so I have been saving up some money to do so. It also is good to do some work just to pass free time, otherwise I’d be sitting around my house all day with very few things to do. Working also is good for me just so that I can spend time with friends and talking with customers. Not related to working too much, but I love talking with customers and seeing what their lives are like, knowing that they are on crazy paths of life just like all of us. Anyways, I want to keep working at my part-time job as much as I can since I know I will have to leave soon for a new job. I really enjoy working at B&G, but I know that bigger opportunities are coming my way soon.

Another thing I spent some time on was my old projects. In order to keep fresh in software and improve my portfolio, I turned back to a lot of my old projects to perfect them as much as possible. A lot of the projects I made early last fall were not the best they could be due to me not knowing too much about design yet. So, I applied my new graphic design skills to my old projects, and thankfully they are starting to have lots of improvements.

One last thing I did this summer was: just being myself! I spent a lot of time just laying back and doing the things that I love, like spending time with friends and family, eating ice cream (lots of it), working out, and taking lots of naps with my cat in the sun. It is really nice to kick back during the summer just to give yourself a mental break and enjoy the nice weather, since a little sun never hurt no one.

But, I can’t wait to get back into the swing of school, being back on a schedule, and working with classmates on design projects!
